Bamboo Removal in Windermere, FL
Cutting bamboo to the ground rarely ends it. The living part is underground. We figure out what type you have and where the runners travel, then remove the canes and the root mass so your yard stops filling back in.

Why Bamboo Keeps Coming Back
Bamboo stores its energy in rhizomes, the thick underground stems that feed every cane. If those stay in the soil, new shoots push up within weeks, often farther out than before. That is why so many homeowners tell us they already cut it down once or twice.
Before we pick up a shovel, we work out what we are dealing with. Running bamboo sends rhizomes sideways, sometimes under a fence or a walkway. Clumping bamboo stays in a tighter mass but grows a dense root ball that is heavy work to lift. Each one is removed differently, and knowing which you have shapes the whole job and the price.
We also check where it started. If the bamboo is creeping in from a neighbor's side, clearing your side alone will not hold. In that case we talk with you about a root barrier along the line.
What Our Bamboo Removal Covers
Identifying the bamboo
We look at cane spacing, leaf shape and how the shoots emerge to tell running from clumping types. That one step decides whether we dig a wide area or a concentrated clump.
Tracing the rhizomes
We probe and dig test spots to see how far the runners have traveled. Most sit in the top foot or so of soil, but they can run well past the visible canes.
Cutting and clearing canes
Every cane is cut low and hauled away. Mature canes are tough and sharp when split, so we bundle and remove them rather than leave piles at your curb.
Digging out the root mass
We excavate the rhizomes and the clump base, by hand near fences, slabs and pool decks and with equipment where there is room.
Root barrier, if it is needed
Where bamboo is entering from next door or you want to keep a contained stand, we can set a heavy plastic barrier in a trench to turn the runners back.
Regrading and cleanup
We backfill the holes, rake the area level and leave it ready for sod installation, new beds or whatever you plan next.
Signs It Is Time to Deal With Your Bamboo
Shoots in the lawn
Pointed shoots popping up in the grass several feet from the stand mean the rhizomes are traveling. The farther they are, the sooner it is worth acting.
Pressure on fences and edges
Bamboo pushing through or under a fence, lifting edging or crowding a walkway is a sign the root mass has grown past where it belongs.
It came back after cutting
If you cut it down and it returned thicker, the rhizomes are still alive. A root-level removal is the step that was missing.
Too close to pipes or the pool
Dense roots near irrigation lines, a pool deck or the foundation of your home are worth addressing before they cause cracking or blocked lines.
A thicket you can no longer use
When a privacy screen has turned into a dark, leaf-filled thicket that harbors pests and blocks the yard, it is time to clear or contain it.
How a Bamboo Removal Job Runs
- 1
On-site walkthrough
We walk the stand with you, identify the type and dig a few test holes to see where the runners go. You hear what we found and what we recommend in plain terms.
- 2
A clear written estimate
You get a line-by-line estimate covering cane removal, digging, hauling and any barrier. If partial containment makes more sense than full removal, we say so.
- 3
Removal day
We mark irrigation heads and lines, cut and haul the canes, then dig out the rhizomes and root mass. Larger stands can take more than one day.
- 4
Backfill and cleanup
Holes get filled and leveled, debris leaves with us and the area is raked clean.
- 5
Watching for strays
A few small shoots from missed fragments can appear in the following weeks. We explain how to spot them and pull them while they are tender, which is far easier than waiting.
What Shapes the Cost of Bamboo Removal
No two stands are the same, so we price after seeing yours. The biggest driver is what is underground, not how tall the canes look. If you are taking on a bigger project, you can spread the cost with financing of up to $100,000, choosing a term anywhere from 2 to 12 years, and there is no penalty if you pay it off early.
- Running or clumping
- Running bamboo usually means digging a wider area to chase rhizomes. Clumping bamboo is more compact, but its root ball can be dense and heavy to lift.
- Size and age of the stand
- An older stand has thicker canes, more rhizomes and more material to haul away.
- Access and nearby structures
- Bamboo against a fence, pool deck or utility line has to be dug by hand, which takes longer than open ground where equipment fits.
- Barrier and restoration
- Adding a root barrier, new soil or fresh sod afterward adds to the job. We list each as its own line so you can choose.
Bamboo Removal Questions
Something not covered here? (407) 759-3842
Can I just spray it with weed killer?
Spraying alone rarely reaches deep enough into a large rhizome network, and repeated treatments near lawns and beds can harm plants you want to keep. Physical removal of the root mass is the most dependable approach. We can talk through follow-up options for any stray shoots.
Will the bamboo come back after you remove it?
Removing the rhizomes takes away almost all of its ability to regrow. Small fragments left in the soil can send up an occasional shoot, especially during the rainy summer months. Pulling those early keeps them from re-establishing.
The bamboo is coming from my neighbor's yard. What can you do?
We can clear everything on your side and install a root barrier along the property line to block new runners. Without a barrier, bamboo from next door will keep crossing over.
Can I keep some of it as a privacy screen?
Yes. We can thin the stand, remove the spread and contain the part you want to keep with a barrier. It is a good middle ground when you like the screening but not the creep.
Do you grind out the leftover stumps?
Bamboo does not leave stumps like a tree, so we dig out the clump bases rather than grind them. If you also have tree stumps on the property, our stump grinding service can handle those during the same visit.
What can I plant afterward?
Once the area is leveled, it is ready for new sod, mulched beds or plants. Our landscape design team can help you choose a replacement screen that stays where you put it.
