ServicesPalm Tree Pruning and Removal
Palm Tree Pruning and Removal in Windermere
We trim palms the way they grow best, take out the ones that can't be saved, and tell you which is which. Before any cutting, we look at the fronds, the trunk and the base so you only pay for work your palm actually needs.

Healthy Palms Need Less Cutting Than You Think
A palm feeds itself through its fronds, and even the yellowing ones are still sending nutrients to the rest of the tree. That is why heavy pruning often does more harm than good. We remove fronds that are fully brown, dead or hanging, along with seed pods and loose fruit, and leave the green crown to keep doing its job.
Yellow or spotted fronds usually point to something else going on. Older fronds turning orange-yellow often mean a potassium shortage, while weak, crinkled new growth on a queen palm can mean a manganese problem. Cutting those fronds off only hides the symptom. We tell you what we see and what would actually help.
Some palms are past saving. A soft or oozing trunk, conks near the base or a collapsed center bud means the palm can fail, and removal is the safe choice. When that is the case, we say so plainly and explain why.
What Our Palm Work Covers
- Dead frond and pod removal
- We cut brown fronds, flower stalks and seed pods close to the trunk without nicking it. Fewer pods means less fruit staining your pavers and fewer volunteer seedlings in your beds.
- Crown checks on every palm
- While we are up in the canopy, we look at the bud, the new spear and the frond bases. If something looks off, you hear about it before we leave.
- No climbing spikes on palms you keep
- Palm trunks never heal from spike wounds, and those holes can let in rot and pests. We use ladders, lifts or rope access on any palm that is staying.
- Clean tools between palms
- Some palm diseases spread through pruning saws. We clean our blades between trees so one sick palm does not pass a problem to the next.
- Full palm removal
- We take palms down in controlled sections when they stand near a roof, pool cage or lanai, then haul away the trunk and fronds. If you want the base gone too, our stump grinding service clears it below grade.
Signs Your Palm Needs Attention
Brown fronds hanging down
Dead fronds that droop against the trunk can drop in a storm and catch on roofs or screens. They are ready to come off.
Heavy seed clusters
Large pod and fruit loads add weight and create a mess on walkways, pools and driveways. Removing them early saves cleanup later.
Yellowing older fronds
This is often a nutrient issue rather than a pruning issue. A quick look tells us whether feeding would help more than cutting.
Wilting or a bent center spear
When the newest spear yellows or flops over, the bud may be in trouble. That needs a close look soon, because a palm cannot grow a new bud.
Soft spots or conks at the base
Shelf-like growths or a hollow sound low on the trunk can mean internal rot. These palms can fall without much warning.
Palms leaning toward the house
A new or growing lean, or roots lifting soil on one side, is worth checking before hurricane season starts in June.
How a Palm Job Goes With Us
- 1
Start with a phone call
Tell us how many palms you have and what is worrying you. We set up a time for a free on-site walkthrough.
- 2
We look before we quote
At your home, we check each palm's crown, trunk and base and point out anything unusual. You get a written estimate that lists each palm and what we recommend for it, including when we think no cutting is needed.
- 3
Work day
We protect plantings and pavers where fronds will come down, then prune or remove palms in the order we discussed. Trunks near structures are lowered by rope rather than dropped.
- 4
Cleanup and a walk-through
Fronds, pods and trunk sections are loaded and hauled off, and we rake and blow the area. Before we leave, we walk the yard with you and go over anything we noticed for later.

What Shapes the Price of Palm Work
Every palm job is quoted after we see the trees in person, so the number reflects your yard and not a guess. Your estimate is free and broken out palm by palm. If a bigger project is easier to pay for over time, we offer financing of up to $100,000, with terms anywhere from 2 to 12 years and no penalty if you pay it off early.
- Height and number of palms
- A tall Washingtonia takes more time and equipment than a pygmy date palm you can reach from a ladder. Several palms in one visit usually cost less per tree than separate trips.
- Species and thorns
- Date palms and some others carry sharp spines at the frond base, which slows the work and takes extra care.
- Access around your home
- Palms beside pool cages, roofs, fences or tight side yards often need roping and sectional cutting instead of a simple fall.
- Condition of the palm
- A rotting or dead palm can be unsafe to climb, which changes how we take it down.
- Haul-away and the stump
- Removing debris is part of our work. Grinding the stump is optional and priced as its own line.
Palm Pruning and Removal Questions
Something not covered here? (407) 759-3842
How often should my palms be pruned?
Most palms here do well with one or two visits a year, depending on the species and how much fruit they set. Queen palms and royals shed at their own pace, while sabals and date palms hold onto dead fronds longer. We suggest a schedule after we see your trees.
Should I have my palms cut back hard before hurricane season?
No. Stripping a palm down to a few upright fronds, sometimes called a hurricane cut, actually weakens it and can thin the trunk over time. Removing dead fronds and heavy seed pods is enough. A full green crown helps the palm handle wind.
My palm is turning yellow. Can it be saved?
Often, yes. Yellowing on the oldest fronds is commonly a nutrient issue that improves with the right fertilizer over the following seasons. If we see signs of disease or a damaged bud instead, we will tell you honestly whether it is worth trying.
Do you take out the stump after removing a palm?
We can. Palm stumps are fibrous and break down slowly, so most people prefer to have them ground out so the spot can be replanted or sodded. We include it as a separate line on your estimate so you can decide.
Will you leave a mess in my yard?
We clear the fronds, pods and trunk pieces and haul everything away the same day. We also rake beds and blow off walkways and patios before we wrap up.
